ScorePlay is the AI-powered media infrastructure for sports, built to automate the content operations behind the world's biggest sports organizations. We work with 300+ leagues, competitions, teams and broadcasters – including Ligue 1 and Premier League clubs, NBA and NFL teams, the Tour de France, the Australian Open, and leading bodies like UEFA and FIBA – helping them turn every moment on and off the field into high-value, structured content . Our platform brings all their media into one place and makes it effortless to find, edit and share in seconds.
Founded in 2021 , we’re a 50-person team based between New York and Paris , growing 2x year over year with 98% retention. We’ve raised $20M+ from top investors including Alexis Ohanian and Harry Stebbing’s 20VC and elite athletes like Kevin Durant, Raphaël Varane, Mario Götze, Nico Rosberg and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
If you’re passionate about sports and thrive in fast-paced environments - and you want to help shape how the next generation of fans experience sports, you’re in the right place. We’re on track to become the global leader in sports media , and this is definitely the best time to join our adventure .
💡 Overview
We’re entering a key phase: scaling our product and engineering organization to support our rapid growth.
As Engineering Manager, you’ll partner with Seb (Head of Engineering) to shape our engineering structure, strengthen mentorship, and help the team deliver at scale, while preserving the craftsmanship and culture that define ScorePlay.
🧠 What you’ll work on :
Lead & Grow Your Team
• Manage, mentor, and support a team of 4–6 engineers.
• Coach junior and mid-level developers through regular 1:1s, code reviews, and project check-ins.
• Build a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and psychological safety, where engineers ask for help early and learn continuously.
• Define career paths and growth frameworks that help your team thrive as we scale.
Own Technical Delivery
• Own and continuously improve the delivery rhythm of your feature team, from scoping and design to shipping and QA.
• Translate product goals into clear technical plans in close partnership with PMs and Design.
• Proactively identify blockers, quality risks, and technical debt, and help the team navigate them effectively.
• Stay close to the code: review architecture proposals, debug complex issues, and occasionally prototype or ship small fixes when it helps the team move faster.
Bridge Product, Engineering & Customers
• Partner closely with PMs to prepare pre-planning sessions and ensure smooth, productive grooming cycles.
• Collaborate directly with customers’ technical teams on API integrations and enterprise workflows when needed.
• Bring a technical voice into product discussions, ensuring what we build is feasible, scalable, and maintainable.
Shape the Future of Our Engineering Org
• Design and implement the processes, rituals, and best practices that will help us scale sustainably.
• Partner with TA on hiring, and onboarding for future engineers.
• Champion a clean, elegant, and scalable mindset across the teams, from code reviews to architecture decisions.
🏆 Why ScorePlay ?
Here are a few signs you might love working at ScorePlay:
• You’re passionate about sports and excited to build tech that empowers clubs, athletes, and media teams to tell their stories at global scale.
• You love turning chaos into clarity, bringing structure, mentorship, and technical excellence to fast-moving teams.
• You want to shape how a product used by the world’s top sports brands evolves, both technically and organizationally.
• You thrive in a hands-on leadership role, close enough to the code to stay credible, but focused on helping others grow and ship better every week.
• You’re motivated by impact, autonomy, and ownership, defining what “great engineering” looks like as our first EM.
• You want to join a profitable, fast-scaling startup where engineering feels personal, collaborative, and deeply product-driven.
• You’re drawn to international, ambitious teams (15+ nationalities, Paris ↔ New York) who care about craft, performance, and culture as much as growth.
🧩 What we’re looking for :
• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including at least 2–3 years leading people (Tech Lead or EM).
• Strong technical foundation in backend systems, ideally Go, but we value architectural depth over language expertise.
• Experience mentoring developers, running 1:1s, and improving team velocity and code quality.
• Skilled at balancing technical depth with empathy and communication.
• Excited to still be hands-on at a strategic level, reviewing, unblocking, prototyping, without being in the sprint delivery loop.
• Experienced in a high-growth startup or scale-up (10–50 engineers) where process and structure were being built.
We know many people hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every single requirement on a job description. If you’re interested in ScorePlay but not sure you tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you, this could be the start of a great long-term collaboration.
Compensation: $80K – $110K • $150K Equity
