Best for: Knowledge workers, researchers, and writers wanting data ownership and extensibility.
Pros:
+ Local-first storage ensures notes are plain Markdown files on user’s disk
+ Instant load and search performance even with 10,000+ notes
+ Extensive plugin ecosystem with 1,800–1,900+ community plugins (e.g., Kanban, Dataview)
+ Bidirectional linking and graph view for knowledge mapping
Cons:
- Steep learning curve with a 2-week ramp-up period
- Collaboration is not a strength; sync is paid ($4–$10/mo) or manual
- Mobile UX lags behind desktop polish
- No free sync option; requires iCloud, Syncthing, Dropbox, or Git setup
Ranked #2 of 4, score 9/10 in "Best Note Taking App for 2026: Data-Driven Rankings" by Top Ratings Hub, updated 2026-07-28.
Round-up topic: best note taking app.
Also ranked: #3 in "Best Note Taking App for Android in 2026: Top 5 Ranked"; #3 in "Best Note Taking App for Mac in 2026"; #3 in "Best Note Taking App for Windows in 2026: 6 Ranked Tools"; #2 in "Top Notion Alternatives in 2026: Ranked by Pricing and Features".
Editorial pick from a published round-up — not an advertisement placed by a private seller, and nobody on Bazeta is selling it.
