Obsidian

Best for: Knowledge workers, researchers, and writers wanting data ownership and extensibility.

Pros:
+ Local-first storage ensures notes are plain Markdown files on user’s disk
+ Instant load and search performance even with 10,000+ notes
+ Extensive plugin ecosystem with 1,800–1,900+ community plugins (e.g., Kanban, Dataview)
+ Bidirectional linking and graph view for knowledge mapping

Cons:
- Steep learning curve with a 2-week ramp-up period
- Collaboration is not a strength; sync is paid ($4–$10/mo) or manual
- Mobile UX lags behind desktop polish
- No free sync option; requires iCloud, Syncthing, Dropbox, or Git setup
