Stripe

Best for: Developers building custom payment flows for SaaS or marketplaces; teams needing flexible API integration and subscription management

Pros:
+ Lower standard online transaction fee (2.9% + $0.30) compared to PayPal's 3.49% + $0.49
+ Developer-first APIs with strong documentation for custom payment flows
+ Built-in tax tooling and subscription billing infrastructure included in the core product

Cons:
- Less consumer brand recognition at checkout compared to PayPal, potentially affecting conversion rates for new buyers
- Product surface is large and can become complex ('its own maze') for simple wallet-button-only needs
