Product Manager

We're making energy fair, clean, and simple for all using technology.
Octopus Energy started with a bold idea: to build Britain’s first truly digital energy supplier. By combining world-class tech with brilliant humans who care deeply about customers and driving the renewable energy transition, we made it happen and in 2025, we became Britain’s largest energy supplier.

Octopus Energy Group is a global energy transition collective. 10 businesses working across 4 continents to tackle energy transformation at nearly every front.

And we constantly push to make energy better. Tirelessly campaigning for fair protections for customers. And building innovative technologies that forge a path to a green energy system.

We’re made up of 10,000+ authentic, committed people working around the world on stuff you'd never expect. We're united by a shared goal: to drive the global green energy revolution. Read our Spotlight series to meet some of the team.

About the role
OE Tech is the engineering and product organisation inside Octopus Energy. Here you’ll have real ownership, variety, and the chance to shape products that make a tangible difference in people’s lives: lowering bills, enabling greener living, and delivering experiences customers genuinely love. You’ll work side by side with teams across services, marketing, operations, and data, and see the impact of your work in the real world, fast.

In North America, Octopus recently invested in Uplight. We are looking for a Product Manager to join our OE Tech team, focused on our North American work at Uplight.

Uplight makes software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses, including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behaviour, to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. These solutions are accelerating the transition to clean energy and saving money for energy customers.

Our goal is to ensure scaling up never means slowing down or compromising on a world-class customer journey for low carbon tech. In this role, you will be responsible for the core user experience of optimising smart devices - ensuring it’s seamless for customers and for the program managers managing demand response programs at scale. You’ll enable energy companies to predictably rely on the load shed of aggregated smart devices, such as smart thermostats, to ensure dispatch is scalable, resilient, and easy to use.

You’ll work side by side with engineers, customer operations, and field teams to shape the digital products that scale up electro-tech in homes.

We embrace flat hierarchies and an open, agile culture that fosters innovation, flexibility, and creativity. We don’t hang our personalities up with our coats and nor should you.

At Octopus, we hire great people who get stuff done, all whilst being themselves.

What you'll do

•
You’ll work across one of our products and run a clear, forward-looking roadmap that prioritises the biggest opportunities while proactively keeping an eye on dependencies across different teams.

•
Take full ownership of planning, running, delivering and monitoring key missions in your area, keeping things on track and making sure everything hands off smoothly.

•
Day to day execution - you’ll break things down so engineering teams can ship quickly and smoothly, write PRDs, and run rituals that ensure different teams are beautifully aligned.

•
Be a product discovery champion, rapidly experimenting, vibe coding prototypes before passing them over to engineering.

•
Keep your roadmap flexible and driven by fresh insights, getting feedback on new opportunities, risks, and trade-offs and running data analysis to inform your approach.

•
Map out and manage your stakeholder network, ensuring everyone has a shared understanding of what we're building and the customer value we expect to bring.

•
Put yourself in the customer’s shoes, working across UX, data, and engineering to uncover hidden pain points and turn them into great user experiences.

•
Keep our product documentation in great shape, keep an eye on market trends, and help Group PMs out with commercial agreements and external suppliers.

What you'll have

•
3+ years of product management experience with some great stories about taking an idea from initial discovery all the way to launch and user adoption.

•
Experience in startups or fast-moving scale-ups where you've had to figure things out without a rigid playbook.

•
Real care for customers. You think about their experience constantly and push the team to get the details right.

•
Comfort with AI to vibe code prototypes, and with data to write your own queries so you can grab data and test ideas independently.

•
A natural urge to discover and experiment, meaning you're entirely comfortable working alongside UX and engineering to test assumptions and build lean MVPs fast.

•
Experience navigating busy stakeholder environments, building trust, and keeping different teams aligned around a shared vision.

•
Plenty of flexibility and focus, meaning you stay calm when things are ambiguous, juggle competing priorities well, and know how to weigh risk against business value.

•
A healthy curiosity about the wider market, competitor movements, and how business cases and ROI tie into your product decisions.

•
A deeply collaborative spirit that naturally bridges the gaps between UX, data, and engineering, keeping the customer's real-world experience at the center of every single decision.

Nice to haves

•
Familiarity with energy, flexibility, utilities, or other regulated industries.

•
Experience working in data-science driven products
