Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
Team Description:
The mission of the Platform Product Group engineers is to build a trusted, scalable and compliant platform to operate with speed, efficiency and quality. Our teams build and maintain the platforms critical to the existence of Coinbase. There are many teams that make up this group which include Product Foundations (i.e. Identity, Payment, Risk, Proofing & Regulatory, Finhub), Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure.
The AI Platform Team is a dynamic and ambitious group focused on building centralized AI infrastructure and acceleration solutions that drive productivity, innovation, and customer impact across Coinbase. Our mission is to accelerate AI adoption, enhance team efficiency, and deliver exceptional customer experiences by embedding growth pods directly within teams across the organization. As an Engineering Manager on our team, you’ll be driving this transformative shift within the company. You’ll work with state-of-the-art AI models, frameworks, and tools, playing a pivotal role in shaping how people and businesses engage with and benefit from AI in the future.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
• Explore and apply advanced GenAI techniques, including large language models (LLMs) and Agentic AI, to solve complex challenges across the organization.
• Collaborate with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps and translate vision into actionable quarterly plans.
• Lead project execution by managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, leveraging your technical expertise.
• Architect scalable, secure systems using modern cloud technologies and industry best practices.
• Coach team members on design principles, coding standards, and AI productivity tools adoption.
• Debug complex technical issues to enhance system reliability, scalability, and ease of operation.
• Review and ensure the security, scalability, and architectural integrity of feature designs across teams.
• Build pipelines to integrate with third-party vendors and streamline workflows.
• Hiring, training and growing a high-performing team to blaze the trail in AI/ML solutions.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering
• At least 2+ years of engineering management experience.
• Proven expertise in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services in a very hands-on manner while leading a team of highly competent engineers
• Experience hiring and running high performing teams via processes and sound engineering practices
• Deep understanding of what high-quality code and software engineering processes look like, and the ability to foster an environment that promotes them.
• Familiarity with GenAI frameworks/tools, Python, GoLang, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB.
• Background in AI/LLM infrastructure.
• Deep customer obsession towards your primary stakeholders.
• Passion for building an open financial system that unites the world.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices.
Nice to haves:
• Experience navigating rapid company growth (e.g., from startup to mid-size).
