Slack

Best for: SaaS-first, async-heavy teams outside the Microsoft ecosystem that prioritize deep third-party integrations and semantic search over native document editing.

Pros:
+ Includes semantic search on all paid plans, understanding meaning rather than just keywords
+ AI features are included in all paid plans with no additional add-on cost
+ Offers Slack Connect for shared channels with external organizations, providing granular guest access
+ Supports 2,600+ app integrations, including deep Salesforce ecosystem workflows

Cons:
- Mandatory 9% annual renewal price escalation increases long-term costs
- Video meetings are limited to 50 participants on paid plans
- Lacks native Office document editing, requiring downloads for Word/Excel work
- Desktop app crashes during Huddles, as documented in testing
