Join Axon and be a Force for Good.
At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.
Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.
Your Impact
Axon’s RF sensors detect and locate drones so public safety and critical infrastructure teams can protect airspace. You will own the test strategy and independent verification approach for RF sensor capabilities — spanning regression, integration, and real-world validation — so those systems are trustworthy in the lab and in the field. You will work closely with RF Engineering at the intersection of software, hardware, and real-world RF, helping turn technical evidence into confident product decisions.
Work Location: This role is based out of our Kassel, Germany office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. We believe that connection fuels innovation, and our in-office culture is designed to foster meaningful teamwork, mentorship, and shared success.
What You’ll Do
• Own the test strategy and independent verification approach for RF sensor software from design through release, adding rigor through regression, integration, and real-world validation.
• Design and own test strategies spanning feature, regression, integration / interface, system, and field validation. Combine automated coverage with targeted manual validation based on risk and technical feasibility.
• Develop in-depth functional tests for individual components of the RF sensor software, and keep those tests maintainable as the product evolves.
• Reproduce, isolate, and characterize issues on real sensor hardware and in test environments; capture clear reproduction steps, logs, and environment details.
• Build and maintain hardware-backed automated regression tests and supporting test tooling.
• Monitor and improve development and test systems and test hardware so environments stay stable, observable, and ready for daily use.
• Partner closely with RF Engineering and independently verify behavior in realistic environments and across system interfaces. Execute system, release, field, and acceptance testing with release stakeholders.
• Document test results and defects clearly, and contribute to software design reviews and after-action reviews for the work you own.
• Share knowledge with the wider team, give actionable feedback, and support newer engineers and interns through pairing, reviews, and onboarding.
• Use approved agentic AI tools regularly to design tests, analyze results, and draft documentation and review AI output against quality, security, and performance standards before you rely on it.
What You Bring
• A degree or vocational qualification in electrical engineering, computer science, embedded systems, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience testing software that runs on or with hardware (embedded products, devices, sensors, or similar systems), including independently owning the test and quality approach for that work.
• Experience with RF, embedded, sensor, or similarly hardware-integrated systems, with the technical aptitude and curiosity to develop deep expertise in RF sensor technologies.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated tests or test tooling, ideally in Python pytest, with the ability to independently support hardware-backed regression testing.
• Comfort working in Linux-based systems (SSH, Networking).
• A collaborative, quality-focused working style: you Join Forces with others, Own It on the quality of the work you take on, and speak up with candor when something is unclear or broken.
• It’s a plus if you have experience with drones or hardware-in-the-loop / continuous integration test setups and an interest in supporting others as they grow.
Don’t meet every single requirement? That's ok. At Axon, we Aim Far. We think big with a long-term view because we want to reinvent the world to be a safer, better place. We are also committed to building diverse teams that reflect the communities we serve.
Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they check every box in the job description. If you’re excited about this role and our mission to Protect Life but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification listed here, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
Important Notes
The above job description is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all duties, responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with this job. The job description may change or be supplemented at any time in accordance with business needs and conditions.
Some roles may also require legal eligibility to work in a firearms environment.
